Isn&#8217;t it true? Of course, it is! I have my so favorite t-shirt with a print \u201cI should have been an artist\u201d. I bought it almost three years ago and I realized that it was a creed of my life! \ud83d\ude42 I would just add one more t-shirt with a print \u201cI should have been half Italian\u201d \ud83d\ude42 . Not a complete one, but just a little bit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3292 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9661-1.jpg\" alt=\"Fiat-Italia-Puglia\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After a small pause in my yearly Italian vacations, I found myself almost in the same place I\u2019ve been two years ago (do you remember about my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.feetoutofbed.com\/gallipoli-italy-italian-maldives\/\">fantastic time in Gallipoli<\/a>?), in Puglia region, so near to such splendid places like Lecce and Porto Cesareo, in 10 km from the Ionian coast.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later I\u2019ve figured out that this spot is also famous for its Primitivo wine production, one the most prominent Italian wines &#8211; Primitivo di Manduria. Primitivo wine museum and various tasting rooms visits I kept for a next trip. \ud83d\ude00<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-3287 size-full aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0582.jpg\" alt=\"Wine-Primitivo-Italian\" width=\"3024\" height=\"4032\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But anyway, pardon my distraction, I was about to tell you another. So why \u201cshould I have been half Italian\u201d or even \u201csouth Italian\u201d?. You know, I think we Ukrainians have quite much in common with Italians (maybe Italians wouldn&#8217;t agree, but we do \ud83d\ude00 )\u2026 In traditions, view of life and lots of other things..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">I think so, because I felt myself like being at home. And when people were saying to me \u201cwell, we don\u2019t know how it is in your home country, but here&#8230; !\u201d, I was completely\u00a0understanding them, because we got the same. \ud83d\ude42 And especially when you speak their language, it doubles the effect! You are able to comprehend so many details and curiosities\u2026 Amazing!\u00a0So that I was telling you about the Southern part of Italy. Actually, I don\u2019t know how\u2019s there over the Nord.. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there were situations when I was sincerely surprised. For example: when you meet your friends what is the second thing you ask them after \u201chow are you doing?\u201d. I mean you still continue talking what\u2019s going on, your work, whom you met, whatever. Anyway about life situations. <\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But do you know what southern Italians ask each other?!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhat did you eat?\u201d! Seriously. \ud83d\ude42 We can ask it as well, but here all is different. \ud83d\ude42<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; And where were you yesterday? Ohhh, in that pizzeria? Fantastic place! So what did you eat? And we took pizza \u201cDiavola e tonno\u201d the last time, over delicious! We also added a bit of \u201cthat\u201d cheese (obviously you indicate with type of cheese, also you can add its origins, characteristics and the place you can where to buy it \ud83d\ude00 ). And there was such an amazing dolce! You know, like that one we ate when we were at Teresa\u2019s place, when her mom cooked orecchiette con le cime di rapa (typic Puglia pasta)&#8230;. And like this you can go on for a half of an hour.. \ud83d\ude00<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> And like this, you can go on for a half of an hour, every time you meet the people.. \ud83d\ude00 Even men know what are the ingredients of this or that dish! And yes, they&#8217;ll be even telling you how to prepare it and that it is a super delicious traditional very regional and typical thing. \ud83d\ude00<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3304\" style=\"width: 3432px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3304\" class=\"wp-image-3304 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1756.jpg\" alt=\"Pasta-Puglia-Italy\" width=\"3422\" height=\"2427\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3304\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pizzariedde &#8211; pasta fatta in casa (homemade pasta)<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_3313\" style=\"width: 2916px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3313\" class=\"wp-image-3313 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1768.jpg\" alt=\"Grappa-Italy\" width=\"2906\" height=\"2906\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3313\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Digestive after lunch or dinner is a must do! Usually, the alcohol is called &#8220;amaro&#8221;, here it is grappa.<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3288\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_0703-e1485453735353.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0703\" width=\"3024\" height=\"4032\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the way there is one lady Teresa Mannino, an Italian comedian whose shows I\u2019ve been recently watching. Usually I am not a big fan of such kind of art, but here I could tear myself from the show! The way she laughs over the classic Italian stereotypes, especially that one which regards \u201cNord-South\u201d, is just fantastic! So here is what she says:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe Southern people, we got an exceptional relationship with the food, it is on an emotional level. For example, you in Milan to show your sympathy, you present flowers. And we &#8211; a box of fresh fish, a slab of meat, a basket of fruits or sweets!\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>&#8220;You northerners, <\/em>you&#8217;ve<em> a got a weekend. We <\/em>don&#8217;t,<em>\u00a0because we have a Sunday lunch with relatives. It is like a brunch but it lasts anyhow two days: one day to eat and one day to digest&#8221;. <\/em>\ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>&#8220;So one day I am calling my mom to tell her that the next day I&#8217;ll be flying from Milan to Palermo. And you what did she ask me immediately?! &#8220;What will you eat?&#8221; Oh <\/em>mio dio<em>, how can I know!!!&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>&#8220;The flights Palermo-Milano are the only flights where passengers give food to <\/em>hostess<em>! \u00a0Canolli, caciocavallo, \u00a0fruits, vegetables &#8211; <\/em>aaall<em> should be taken! A stench during this flights is unique!&#8221; <\/em>\ud83d\ude00<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So if anyone speaks Italian, w<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">atch it, it is really funny. \ud83d\ude42 Here is <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/O6OahpUHPR4\">the link<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The food topic is not limited with just food and dishes. A separate argument is olive oil. Olive tree is basically appreciated as much as.. I don&#8217;t know.. Cows in India, or rice in China. Can you imagine that even the olive trees thievery exists! Yes, yes! There is a business of crime specialized in the theft of olive trees and selling them abroad or in Italy. Old trees can reach a value of a couple or even more thousands of euros.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_3306\" style=\"width: 2756px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3306\" class=\"wp-image-3306 size-full\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_1758.jpg\" alt=\"Olive-oil-Italian\" width=\"2746\" height=\"3772\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3306\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Local olive oil producer<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another question whose olives and oil is better. Spanish are the biggest producers, but the quality is lax, the Greeks are so-so; Israel is more or less. But Italian olives and, accordingly, the oil is ahhh!\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And we here travel and admire the other Mediterranean countries .. \ud83d\ude42 Later I understood why my phrase &#8220;probably the best olive oil I\u2019ve ever tasted in my life, was in Crete!&#8221; was not met with enthusiasm&#8230; \ud83d\ude42 Later I understood why my phrase &#8220;probably the best olive oil I\u2019ve ever tasted in my life, was in Crete!&#8221; was not met with enthusiasm&#8230; \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But, surprisingly (sarcasm) the best one is not produced in Puglia. the highest quality provides Tuscany, but by volume Puglia ranks first. After Puglia go Calabria and Sicily, and together they produce 75% of the whole Italian olive oil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So these are passionate southern Italians&#8230; \ud83d\ude42 And it&#8217;s not over yet.
