Rome is well-known for being a city of cats, for its particular districts, such as the Roman Ghetto, for its special dialect and cuisine influenced by a variety of cultures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1478 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6238.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6238\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Near Castello Sant&#8217;Angelo<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know that all the roads lead to Rome!\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rome is a huge city and every neighborhood has its own life. Now it consists of 35 neighborhoods!\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I used to live in Monteverde, which I completely loved as it allowed me to make an everyday walk through the Gianicolo garden to the downtown. During the day and night time, it has a splendid panoramic view.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Living a bit outside of the Centro Storico allows you to be a citizen of the quarter, to be a local. My house was situated near the Villa Doria Pamphili, a seventeenth-century villa with what is today the largest landscaped public park in Rome, which I think I would never visit if I didn&#8217;t live there. Every evening dozens of people run and jogging, or do yoga, or just relax there.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1526 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/3613723180_4424e2bd10_o.jpg\" alt=\"3613723180_4424e2bd10_o\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1324\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the way, sport is an essential part of the Italian lifestyle.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So there are many many small details which you are able to notice about the city when you stay there at least for a month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, a fact to know is that it is absolutely safe to drink tap water in Rome. There are around 2,500 public fountains in the city with a fresh, cold and delicious water. So don&#8217;t hesitate, drink water wherever you see a small fountain! \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1486 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/15891451430_d3d342a61d_k.jpg\" alt=\"15891451430_d3d342a61d_k\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1362\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you have cat allergies, be aware that Rome is full of felines &#8211; around 300,000 of them. There is a large cat sanctuary in the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.atlasobscura.com\/places\/torre-argentina-roman-cat-sanctuary\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Largo di Torre Argentina<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and plenty of furry friends can be found prowling around the city&#8217;s other ancient ruins. This is because a Roman law essentially gives cats squatters&#8217; rights &#8211; wherever five or more cats live together in the city, they can&#8217;t be chased away.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are plenty of thoughts to be written about Rome, but today I&#8217;ll give you some advice concerning what you should not miss in gastronomic Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1471 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/151007-Checco-dello-Scapicollo-224-1-e1452641228119.jpg\" alt=\"151007-Checco-dello-Scapicollo-224-1-e1452641228119\" width=\"845\" height=\"563\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So, let&#8217;s start with some advice which won&#8217;t ruin the impression about the Roman cuisine and cuisine in general. Please don&#8217;t stop at the main squares for a lunch or a dinner. Yes, the places are amazing; yes, the atmosphere is romantic, but one thing is that you&#8217;ll pay a lot, the second one is that you pay for nothing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never eat right near the Colosseum or Fontana di Trevi! Of course, there are restaurants around, but they are around and you have to be very sure where you are going to eat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When you are in Italy don&#8217;t eat pizza before the dinner time. The time needed to prepare the oven is quite long and if you want a real taste of pizza, wait till it can be cooked in such an oven. All the rest is touristic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><i><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1467 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/7196713704_294fbcf292_o.jpg\" alt=\"7196713704_294fbcf292_o\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1332\" \/><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You&#8217;ve might hear it already, but remember that Italians drink cappuccino till the lunch and only with dolce. To have a cup of cappuccino after the main course is a mauvais ton. Only espresso or ristretto &#8211; it helps to digest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The was influenced by many cultures. A bright example is a Jewish one. Jewish communities in Rome have been recorded as far back as the second century BC, longer than any other city in Europe. But due to the papacy\u2019s ever increasing influence, Roman-Jews were eventually confined to a walled off neighborhood in the Rione Sant\u2019Angelo in 1555. Here they experienced poverty, discrimination, and incessant flooding due to the presence of the nearby Tiber.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1473 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/072-1.jpg\" alt=\"072\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1137\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite the somber history that surrounds the <strong>Roman Jewish ghetto<\/strong>, the area today is a bustling neighborhood located within Via del Porto d\u2019Ottavia that has managed to retain its Jewish culture: it is home to the gorgeous Synagogue and Jewish Museum of Rome. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1493 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6243.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6243\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1761\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1474 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/9731108944_38dbd6f7a7_o-1.jpg\" alt=\"9731108944_38dbd6f7a7_o\" width=\"3723\" height=\"2075\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A section of the wall of the original ghetto surprisingly still stands, a reminder of the quarter\u2019s past. But what the neighborhood has become most famous for in recent decades is its delicious and typical cuisine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1468 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/5689465825_d4a1b4038a_o.jpg\" alt=\"5689465825_d4a1b4038a_o\" width=\"4288\" height=\"2811\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Visit trattoria <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.it\/Restaurant_Review-g187791-d1309654-Reviews-Il_Portico-Rome_Lazio.html\"><b>Il Portico<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and start your meal with the starters like, a ball of rice with a tomato sauce and mozzarella inside; <\/span><b>carciofi alla giudia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or fried artichokes \u2013 this is definitely one of my favorite starters.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>For the primo (first dish) take something among the list:<\/strong><\/p>\n<h6><b><\/b><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1461 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/cacio-e-pepe.jpg\" alt=\"cacio-e-pepe\" width=\"940\" height=\"550\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Spaghetti Cacio e <\/strong>pepe <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 a simple but a delicious pasta with cheese and black pepper.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Bucatini All&#8217;amatriciana<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>.<\/strong> This classic sauce takes its spiciness from black pepper and dried chiles and its depth of flavor from guanciale, Italian salt-cured pork jowl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>La pasta <\/strong>alla gricia<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 is one of the most famous dishes of the Lazio cuisine, considered to be an ancestor of pasta all&#8217;amatriciana. In common thing with the recipe dell&#8217;amatriciana is the use of the guanciale, the Roman pecorino and pepper. All&#8217;amatriciana differs due to the use of the tomato, absent in the pasta alla gricia since its origin would be even prior to the importation of tomato in Europe. It is said that to &#8220;invent&#8221; the pasta alla gricia were the Lazio shepherds who with few ingredients created a simple but still very delicious dish.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Pasta e <\/strong>fagioli <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2014 literally \u201cpasta and beans\u201d \u2014 is a heartwarming Italian soup, perfect for a chilly night. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As for the second dishes, try <\/span>ossobuco, abbacchio alla romana o alla scottadito<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 all this is meat.\u2028\u2028\u2028The other vibrant and typical neighborhood is Trastevere. Trastevere perhaps is the\u2028most charming neighborhood in all <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.10best.com\/destinations\/italy\/rome\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">he city. Together with Campo de Fiori it is among my favorites!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1495 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/288444318_c8e5a65532_o-1.jpg\" alt=\"288444318_c8e5a65532_o\" width=\"1400\" height=\"933\" \/> <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Piazza Trilussa<\/span><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1501 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6235.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6235\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The area is filled with pizzeria, caf\u00e8s and local taste trattorias. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My favorite pizza here is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/darpoeta\/\"><b>Dar Poeta<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1488 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_9753.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_9753\" width=\"515\" height=\"386\" \/> <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is such a small place hidden in the tiny streets in Vicolo del Bologna. But it can be always seen immediately due to a huge crowd of people who can be waiting for their table for an hour or more! \u2028Worthy to visit here is also a historic <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Ristorante-allARCO-di-San-Calisto-dei-Flli-Fioravanti-668847489853500\/\"><b>Arco di San Calisto<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> restaurant. \u2028Aperitif time will be good at <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/Freni e Frizioni\"><b>Freni e Frizioni<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, just out the Trastevere. Maybe it will be loved more by a younger generation, but still it is a quite well-known place in Rome.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1489 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/11205529_900802739958713_5331767321051904898_n.jpg\" alt=\"11205529_900802739958713_5331767321051904898_n\" width=\"960\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1490 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/10448412_725537620818560_6843408988662314905_o.jpg\" alt=\"10448412_725537620818560_6843408988662314905_o\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the summer time, I made my own record! I had a dinner in Trastevere at 1 am! Incredible, but true! That was, by the way, pasta cacio e pepe. Actually, it is totally a common thing to have a late dinner in such countries like Italy, Portugal or Greece and totally a weird thing for such countries as Ukraine. \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Il Tevere during summertime<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1481 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/IMG_6252.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_6252\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Near the piazze Navona there are places like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Mimi-e-Coco-165729210108366\/\"><b>Mimi e Coco<\/b><\/a> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/ilfico.com\"><b>Il Fico<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Il Fico I do like for it&#8217;s first courses and especially for a seafood pasta! These places are a bit hidden, as a usual thing for me. Still they are easily reachable if you look the map attentively.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/checcodelloscapicollo\/timeline\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Checco allo Scapicollo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 a restaurant out of downtown, is a right place for Roma football team fans, where they have a chance to meet its players \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Moving towards Campo de Fiori where there is a small market during the day and a good bar space at night, try <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.osterialaquercia.com\"><b>Osteria La Quercia<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is recommended by locals. As for the bar you can try any you&#8217;ll like.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1496\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1496\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1496\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/5819227945_1a37a07027_b-1.jpg\" alt=\"(More details later, as time permits) *************************************************** After dozens of trips to Rome during a period of nearly 40 years, I have photographed just about every imaginable scene at such popular tourist spots as the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, Castel Sant'Angelo, St. Peters, and the Coliseum. But there are lots of other things to see in the Eternal City, including lots of places that I have not yet photographed. One such spot is Campo dei Fiori, a rectangular piazza located not too far away from Piazza Navona (photos of which you can see in this Flickr set). \" width=\"1024\" height=\"\" name=\"\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1496\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Campo de&#8217; Fiori<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A really chic atmosphere you&#8217;ll find in a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.momorepublic.it\"><b>Mo Mo republic restaurant<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1509 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/12657806_1150899771588683_3761191576118492781_o.jpg\" alt=\"12657806_1150899771588683_3761191576118492781_o\" width=\"1125\" height=\"750\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1510 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/12402068_1127426807269313_8432612063768754120_o.jpg\" alt=\"12402068_1127426807269313_8432612063768754120_o\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is quite out the centro storico, but with a taxi it shouldn&#8217;t create any problem. By the way, this is another place recommended by my local friends.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So in general, I do recommend you to choose Trastevere area and places around Piazza Navona for you dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By the way, there is a storic bar right behind piazza Navona \u2013 <\/span><b>bar del Fico<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. People come here for a mojito and a long talk.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#8217;s finish our gastronomic tour with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/eatalyroma\/\"><b>Eataly<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Helvetica Neue';\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1475 aligncenter\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/265528_394110144009343_1345011049_o.jpg\" alt=\"265528_394110144009343_1345011049_o\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1362\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A spacious food mall, where you can buy or taste many Italian specialties. It is a respectively new Italian brand, which spreads around the world. It is some kind of an alternative to the traditional small food shops or markets, but it can be a good place for those who like modern and traditional.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rome is huge, so new restaurants, wine bars might appear really often. But I hope you&#8217;ll like something from this list as well.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don&#8217;t be afraid to get lost!
